The National Archives is a popular spot with
adults because of the historical documents on display. Most kids won't
appreciate the significance of the displays, so if you're touring with children a quick
trip is probably in order.
Currently on display in the "American
Originals" exhibition are several documents of interest. Some items include the Lee
Resolution, proposing independence to the Continental Congress and President Washington's
nominations for the first Supreme Court. Also of interest are the documents from the 1841
Amistad Supreme Court case, inspiration for the Steven Spielberg movie,
"Amistad".
Many people go to the National Archives in order
to trace their family history. The genealogical facilities here are among the best in the
country.
