In a city filled with free attractions, is
the Corcoran Gallery of Art worth paying to see? Absolutely. Besides the home to many
classic masterpieces, the Corcoran features works by some modern and experimental artists.
The Corcoran also sponsers several programs for local artists, and runs the only
accredited art college in Washington. The result is that the Corcoran is a fantastic blend
of innovation and classics.
This year "45th Biennial: The
Corcoran Collects" is exhibited. It is a collection of 200 newly acquired works by
artists like Winslow Homer, Mary Cassatt and James Hyde.
Sunday Gospel Brunch at the Corcoran is very
popular. There's live music performed by gospel singers and jazz bands in the
beautiful sunlit atruim. Call (202) 639-1700, it can get crowded. |
