Located in Arlington, the Newseum is the only
museum dedicated to journalism. Open since April of 1997, The Newseum has interactive
displays where visitors can try their hand at being a TV anchor, sports announcer,
investigative reporter or other jobs in the field of broadcasting and reporting.
Exhibits demonstrate how the elements of a story
are put together and give a behind the scenes perspective on the news. Perhaps the biggest
scoop ever, Columbuss letter to Queen Isabella about his discovery of the New World
is on display.
Also inside the Newseum is a news Gallery where
visitors can catch the news hot off the press. Radio broadcasts from around the world can
be heard, as well as a display of the headlines of 70 newspapers.
Next to the Newseum is Freedom Park, where a
memorial is dedicated to 934 reporters who died on assignment.
The Newseum features "A Year in the World:
1968, The Magnum Photographs" this summer until Sept. 13. This exhibit displays
artifacts and photographs from era-defining moments of 1968 like Civil Rights marches and
rock concerts.
