The National Geographic Society's headquarters is a great location to take kids. There are plenty of interactive video stations and lots of exhibits to inspire a young adventurer's mind. You can even get your picture on the cover of a National Geographic magazine.  Go if you have the time.

The inside tip is to catch Passport Fridays. Fridays through Sept., there are presentations and hands-on demonstrations.
